GOC staff must improve sector knowledge

Stakeholders Perceptions data shows staff would benefit from visiting practices

Findings from the General Optical Council’s (GOC) Stakeholders Perceptions Research was discussed at the Council’s third meeting of the year on September 21, 2022.

The research was undertaken to understand the views and perceptions of the GOC and its performance, including its response to the pandemic and challenges in the optical sector.

A key finding highlighted that staff at the GOC would benefit from gaining a deeper understanding of the sector by visiting registrants in practices.

The GOC said it would introduce a process for new staff as part of their induction, as well as existing GOC staff, and lay Council and advisory panel members.
