GOC suspends Stanmore-based optometrist

Stanmore optometrist Bhavik Gandhi has been suspended for 10 months by a General Optical Council (GOC) fitness to practise committee by reason of misconduct.

The committee found that Gandhi knowingly made 14 separate false claims for bonus figures, totalling £2,811.33 when working as an optometrist between March 2021 and April 2022.

The Specsavers practice, where Gandhi worked as a resident optometrist, operated a bonus scheme whereby optometrists received 10% of their sales over the threshold of £1,200.

Concerns were initially raised when a spot check in April 2022 revealed that the registrant had claimed £290.21 for that month, when it should have been £57.66.
