A public consultation event will be held by the GOC as part of its strategic review of standards for optometrists and dispensing opticians.

Its review was seeking to ensure that the GOC’s standards continue to reflect good practice while enabling optical professionals to develop their roles, including the delivery of more enhanced services in the community.

Stakeholders have also been asked to consider how optometrists and dispensing opticians’ practice may evolve in the future.

GOC chief executive and registrar Samantha Peters said: ‘We really want stakeholders to attend this event and provide their input on how the changing health climate will impact upon the optical sector and practitioners.

‘With an increasing and ageing population, growing pressures on the NHS and the development of new technology, it is crucial our standards allow our registrants to develop their practice whilst patient safety continues to be ensured. I therefore strongly encourage all of our stakeholders to attend this event and help us with this review.’

Registration for the event, on September at 2pm at Friends House, Euston, London, can be completed online via the GOC website.
