GOC warns optometrist

Optometrist Ket Foong Chong has been given a three-year warning by a GOC fitness to practise committee after it was found he failed to diagnose and refer a patient with glaucoma in March 2009.

Foong Chong admitted misconduct after it was alleged he saw a patient on a number of occasions before eventually leaving him with unresolved symptoms pending his next check-up two years later.

The committee said it was satisfied that the allegations had arisen from the care of a single patient and said the registrant now had more insight into the reasons that brought him before them.

It added that Foong Chong had benefited from peer review and had made sure his examinations were more systematic, with a great emphasis on timely referrals.
