The General Optical Council has issued a reminder to all optometry and dispensing optics students that they must complete and return their retention form, together with payment, by July 15 or risk being removed from the register.

According to the GOC, with the summer fast approaching, just 930 retention forms have been returned out of a total of 4,175 sent out. This leaves 78 per cent of student applications still outstanding.

The regulatory body has also pointed out that registration is a legal requirement and anyone who fails to return their retention form along with the payment by the deadline may be removed from the student register on September 1.
