
An annual Professional Standards Authority’s (PSA) performance review of the General Optical Council’s (GOC) governance for 2019/20 has been welcomed by the regulator, despite missing two standards of good regulation.
The review, which assessed performance between October 1 2019 and September 30 2020, found that targets for standards for registration and fitness to practise were missed, although the GOC said registration issues were addressed promptly and an improvement plan for fitness to practise case had already been implemented.
The PSA praised the GOC’s pandemic response, noting that guidance had been issued for registrants and businesses in a variety of areas, as well as consulting ‘quickly and constructively’ with key stakeholders.
