Marc Woods, champion swimmer and now motivational lecturer will be the keynote speaker at this year's second Independents Day conference this summer.

Woods, who lost his leg to cancer at 17 before going on to win a dozen medals for swimming in five Paralympic Games between 1988 and 2004, uses his own personal story to illustrate the difference between making the decision to strive to become exceptional as opposed to being satisfied with merely being good.

He will discuss effective leadership, motivation, coaching and communication.

The conference is themed 'Marketing the niche', and like last year's successful show will combine commercial and clinical content.

Nick Atkins, director of Proven Track Record which organises the event, said: 'Independents Day was created from recognising the difficult combination of skills required for independent practice success.

'This year's event will encourage owners and managers of independent practices and groups to look at some of the so-called niche markets that can provide substantial opportunities for business growth and independent practice differentiation.'

More information about the event will be announced in due course, but it will be gold winning medallist Woods who will make the keynote address.

'Marc's story is one about getting knocked down but getting up again and aiming to be the best you can be,' said Atkins.

'It is a presentation that mirrors the attributes that anyone who wants to succeed in life must have, be it as a leader, a clinician or a business manager.'

Like last year the conference will also host an exhibition, and is supported by Bausch & Lomb, Marchon, Mid Optic, Optisoft, and Zeiss.
Independents Day 06 will take place at the National Motorcycle Museum on July 4, and for further details email: info@proventrackrecord.co.uk
