The new GOS contracts regulations for England due to come into force in April have been delayed by three months because of 'protracted' negations between the Department of Health (DoH) and the profession.
The explanation for the delay appears on the primary care contracting website and states: 'The protracted nature of the negotiations with the professions has caused the timetable to slip by three months.'
The briefing note goes on to add that the new terms and conditions are now expected to come into force on July 1 after Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) have had an opportunity to prepare for the changes.
Optician understands that the DoH has agreed to remove this wording after it has brought to their attention that there was an 'unintentional' suggestion that the profession was somehow to blame for the delay.
