Elaine Grisdale has been appointed head of professional services for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).
She will be responsible for the management of ABDO's CET department, advice and guidance for members and will work on legislative and regulatory issues.
ABDO general secretary Tony Garrett said: 'I am delighted that Elaine has agreed to join ABDO, she brings with her a wide and varied experience in optics as well as great enthusiasm. I am really looking forward to working with her. Elaine has been appointed following two rounds of interviews and came top of a very competitive and experienced field.'
Grisdale qualified as a dispensing optician in 1985 and worked in practice in Manchester before joining Essilor for three years in the UK. She then joined Essilor International in France in 1989 where she worked as international professional relations manager and established the 'Varilux University'.
