The College of Optometrists has published guidance to its members to help them respond to requests from PCTs undergoing the Healthcare Commission's Annual Health Check.
The Healthcare Commission assesses the management, provision and quality of NHS healthcare and public health services, reviewing the performance of each NHS trust and awarding an annual performance rating. The Commission launched a new approach to assessing and reporting the Annual Health Check in 2005.
This system is based on measuring performance within a framework of national standards and targets and has replaced the old 'star ratings' assessment.
