Liverpool optometrist Harold Silverberg died on July 6 aged 74. Silverberg bought his first practice in Anfield in 1957, expanding the business to six practices in Liverpool by the 1980s. In 1983 he developed retinitis pigmentosa, ultimately forcing him to retire.

Liverpool optometrist Harold Silverberg died on July 6 aged 74. Silverberg bought his first practice in Anfield in 1957, expanding the business to six practices in Liverpool by the 1980s. In 1983 he developed retinitis pigmentosa, ultimately forcing him to retire.

Silverberg studied ophthalmic optics at the Byrom Street Technical College and the Liverpool School of Optics from 1949. He was a member of the National Association of Opticians, a predecessor to the British Optical Association which later became today's College of Optometrists.

Silverberg Opticians is still run by his eldest son, Ian.
