Hereford DO celebrates retirement

Dispensing optician Ruth Kettel has retired after working at Hereford-based independent BBR Optometry for 39 years.

Kettel first worked for the optical practice as a locum on an initial one month placement but kept getting invited back.

‘I have absolutely loved my job and I’ve been very lucky to have so many wonderful patients over the years who have been very loyal and always wanted to come back and see me,’ she said.

BBR Optometry staff and former colleagues celebrated with Kettel at Aylestone Court for afternoon tea and bought her an electric bike as a retirement gift.

Nicholas Rumney, director of BBR Optometry, said: ‘Ruth brought to BBR a genuine love of people, as seen by witness her commitment to Samaritans over many years. She will be sorely missed.’
