Parts of two high profile GOC standards reviews have been deferred by up to two years following the announcement of a review into education strategy.

Work on a voluntary code of practice for online contact lens sellers and new standards for optical businesses will now begin in the 2017/18 schedule. A CET review has also been deferred.

‘Our Education Strategic Review is a big project and does require extra resource, but the rephasing also takes in to account the capacity of our stakeholders to provide considered and detailed feedback on multiple complex projects at the same time,’ a GOC spokesperson told Optician.

The regulator said the education strategic review would ensure that qualifications leading to GOC registration would prepare OOs and DOs for the future roles that would be influenced by changing technology.
