
Staff at a Specsavers in Aberdeen held a special event in December where the city’s most vulnerable were provided with complimentary eye tests, glasses, food and drink.
Volunteering to give up their evenings, the team at the Union Street practice welcomed rough-sleepers with hot drinks donated by Hinba Coffee Roasters and sandwiches, crisps and water donated by Pret A Manger. Eye tests were then carried out for the attendees and, where required, single vision glasses were made within an hour at the onsite lab.
Kirstin Murray, optometric manager at the Aberdeen store, said: ‘Eye care is just as important as other types of healthcare, especially for those living on our streets who face high-risk environments on a daily basis.
