Results from a two-year eye health study have given new hope to people suffering from dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
During the study, conducted by a team from the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland, volunteers received three carotenoid supplements along with a cocktail of co-nutrients, such as vitamin C and copper.
Those of the 100 people in the trial receiving carotenoids showed a significant improvement across 24 out of 32 vision tests. Most patients showed an improvement in their sight, with 40% of trial participants displaying enhanced vision after 24 months.
