3M has sold its safety prescription eyewear business to Hoya Vision Care

3M has sold its safety prescription eyewear business to Hoya Vision Care.

The business, which for more than 90 years has produced safety prescription eyewear in North America, offers a wide range of frames, prescription lenses and premium coating options. It was estimated to have annual global sales of approximately $45 million. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed and 3M will retain its plano safety eyewear business.

‘After a thorough strategic review, we have decided to exit the safety prescription eyewear business to focus on our core personal safety businesses,’ said Bernard Cicut, 3M's vice president and general manager of its Personal Safety Division.

Approximately 140 employees are expected to join Hoya after the sale.
