Humberside sale due

A sale has been agreed for Humberside Optical, according to a company spokesman.

A sale has been agreed for Humberside Optical, expected to be completed a few days after Optician has gone to press, according to a company spokesman.

The lens manufacturing and frame repair business, which has an approximate annual turnover of £1.5m, went into administration after the loss of a big customer (News 03.09.10).

Among the parties who are understood to have placed a bid with administrators to purchase the company located in Barton-upon-Humber was former company director Malcolm McCullagh, who founded the business in 1987 with two partners. McCullagh told the Scunthorpe Telegraph newspaper that 'Humberside Optics is my life, my passion and I am determined to regain control'. He added: 'As far as I am concerned, I am still half-owner of a business that includes a 4,5000sq ft building worth £170,000 and £400,000 worth of specialised equipment.'
