UK member Gary Rolfe has been sponsored by Ciba Vision with Focus Dailies for the past two years and has to deal with temperatures as low as -50C. He is currently on a six-month expedition as part of an international group into the Canadian High Arctic with 28 polar huskies, where a deadly combination of -33C temperatures and a wind speed of 33kph means that skin can freeze in just 33 seconds. 'The Arctic is one of the least understood parts of the planet, yet it affects everyone on earth,' said the 34-year-old explorer. 'In an expedition environment the physical and mental demands are beyond belief. There is no second best on the polar ice - no compromise, no half measures, no short cuts. Confidence in having the very best team and personal gear all contribute to success.' At the other extreme of the temperature scale, Mr Rolfe has tested the durability of Focus Dailies on a three-month expedition into the sweltering heat of the jungle in the Cockscombe Basin of Central America.
