IACLE names education award winners

IACLE (The International Association of Contact Lens Educators) has announced the winners of its 2015 IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year Awards from three global regions

IACLE (The International Association of Contact Lens Educators) has announced the winners of its 2015 IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year Awards from three global regions.

The awards are supported by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and sponsored by CooperVision.

IACLE Asia Pacific Contact Lens Educator of the Year was Professor Monica Chaudhry, head of optometry and vision science at Amity University Gurgaon in India.

IACLE Americas Contact Lens Educator of the Year went to Martín Giraldo, who holds the post of Candidate Magister in Vision Science at La Salle University, Colombia.

German optometrist Helmer Schweizer, president of the industry body Euromcontact and chairman of the European Contact Lens Forum, won IACLE Europe/Africa – Middle East Contact Lens Educator of the Year.

The awards will be presented at an IACLE Session at the BCLA’s Clinical Conference & Exhibition in Liverpool, UK, on Saturday May 30. The Third IACLE World Congress on Contact Lens Education will be held at The University of Manchester from May 24-28.

The IACLE Travel Award, offered for the first time in 2013 as a travel bursary for an IACLE Educator Member who would not otherwise be able to attend the BCLA conference, was won by Dumpati Srikanth from India who completed his training at Bharatiya Vidhyapeeth University. He is presently working as Faculty in the Bausch + Lomb School of Optometry, Hyderabad, India.

BCLA president Susan Bowers said: ‘We are delighted to honour the IACLE Contact Lens Educators of the Year, for the second year. The BCLA has a long-held tradition of recognising and rewarding the achievements of those working in clinical practice, research, industry and education, both at home and abroad – and so we welcome the opportunity to host the IACLE awards during the IACLE session at our prestigious international conference.’
