ILO and IAPB highlights workplace eye issues

A new report estimated that 13 million people live with vision impairment linked to their work and around 3.5 million eye injuries occurred in the workplace every year.

The Eye Health and the World of Work report was published by the International Labour Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

Caroline Casey, president of the IAPB, said: ‘This report demonstrates to everyone the vital importance of looking after our eyes, while also giving incredibly useful guidance and recommendations for how to protect and promote eye health within the workplace.’

The study found over 90% of vision impairment cases were either preventable or treatable through existing interventions, which the IAPB said highlighted the need for a global eye health and workplace initiative.
