In Focus: GOC scores full marks for second year

Timeliness of fitness to practise investigations

An annual review of the General Optical Council’s performance found that the optical regulator met all 18 standards for the second year in a row. The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care’s (PSA) review of 2023 highlighted several areas of work where the GOC performed well.

It noted sustained improvements in the time it took to progress cases through the fitness to practise (FTP) system, as well as the GOC’s plans to continue improving. The report highlighted strong progress was made in the regulator’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) action plan.

This included the use of data to identify areas of improvement and the publication of a joint statement with stakeholders on zero tolerance to bullying, harassment, abuse and discrimination.
