In focus: GOS joins digital age

After a series of regional pilot schemes, Primary Care Support England (PCSE) has started to roll out a new online ophthalmic payments service for opticians who are commissioned to deliver ophthalmic services on behalf of NHS England. Simon Jones reports

Online payments will replace nearly 20 million paper forms submitted and subsequently posted to regional processing centres each year, and the PCSE said the system would give opticians a more efficient way to submit, track and manage their claims.

PCSE and Capita said there would be additional benefits for practitioners, including full details of all claims submitted and ‘click of a button’ confirmation of payment.
