Eye Index invests in 8-base push
Specialist surfacing and glazing laboratory Eye Index has opened a purpose-designed lens surfacing laboratory at its St Ives headquarters in Cambridgeshire.
With the latest CNC-controlled technology and separate hard coating and tinting units, the company said it was poised to build on its successful launch into the 8-base market.
The main function of the new lab will be the manufacture of polycarbonate prescription tinted and mirrored lenses up to 8-base curvature for sports and fashion wraparound eyewear.
Director Tony Harris said that the installation of surfacing plant for 8-base was a logical step.
'With specialist glazing already in place for this type of product and demand growing rapidly, introducing surfacing capacity allows us to complete the package for our customers - effectively a one-stop-shop. Technical surfacing skills are already available to us from our existing team,' said Harris.
The company said the opening of the new lab would make it one of the leading Rx houses for the manufacture of polycarbonate 8-base prescription lenses.
