Intel unveils augmented reality glasses
Technology manufacturer Intel has unveiled a new version of its augmented reality glasses and announced an early access developer programme launching later this year.
Unlike most other smart glasses that use outward-facing cameras and touch controls, Intel’s Vaunt glasses use a mixture of voice and motion controls along with a low-intensity laser that beams information into the retina.
The vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is the same used in the latest iPhone X, used to unlock the phone using facial recognition.
Intel said because the information sits directly on the eye, it could be read by myopes and hyperopes. Prescription lenses can also be fitted.
