IOL patient safety alert

EyeCee One intraocular lenses have been flagged by MHRA for review

A patient safety alert has been issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in relation to EyeCee One intraocular lenses (IOLs).

The body said it was made aware of cases of increased intraocular pressure in people recently implanted with EyeCee One preloaded and EyeCee One Crystal preloaded.

MHRA advised primary eye care providers to tell patients that plans were put in place to review everyone who received these IOLs and direct concerned people to their cataract clinic.

The recalled IOLs have been used in around 5% of procedures in the UK in the last four months, which meant the majority of people who have had cataract surgery over the last four months will be unaffected.
