A driver who killed a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run incident after being warned not to drive by an optometrist (News 12.05.17) has been sentenced to seven years in jail.
The case has prompted the relatives of David Evans, who was fatally struck on Christmas Day 2015, to call all medical professionals, not just doctors, to face disciplinary action if they fail to raise concerns.
The court heard that the driver, Nigel Sweeting, was fully aware of his vision problems, but he ‘couldn’t be bothered’ to see his GP as advised.
