A drug addict who threatened an optical assistant with a screwdriver and demanded money has been jailed for 64 months.

The High Court in Glasgow heard last week that 44-year-old David Taylor walked into Ford Opticians in Linwood, Renfrewshire, initially posing as a patient wanting to book an eye examination, reported the local news service STV.

He then pointed a screwdriver at optical assistant Catherine Moore, who was on her own, and threatened to kill her if she did not open the till. Prosecutor Neil Beardmore told the court: 'She took three attempts to open the till as she was so frightened. The accused grabbed about £30 in coins and notes.
