Johnson & Johnson has re-iterated its advice on the best way to protect the eyes from damaging UV rays in the light of research on sunglass wearing habits (News 02.07.10) and the recent heatwave.
Its research shows that only 7 per cent of patients associate UV radiation with eye problems despite the well known dangers of UV.
It pointed out that reflected and indirect UV accounts for half of that reaching the eye, while effects such as peripheral light focusing where UV radiation enters the eye from the temporal side and is focused across the cornea onto the opposite side of the eye mean sunglasses alone do not provide complete protection.
