Belfast optical company Modern Eyewear has recently benefited from a six-month initiative by Investment Belfast that has led to two new members of staff and an increase in turnover by 15 per cent.

The One More Job initiative, sponsored by Northern Bank and Belfast City Council, was targeted at businesses employing from three to 15 people, that have been in operation for at least three years and are located in an area of social need.

Modern Eyewear, which has been based in Glasgow since the 1950s, set up the Belfast branch three years ago and produces prescription work for opticians throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. It has 33 employees in total and is also a distributor of frames and a wholesaler of lenses under the Rite Vue brand.
