Job losses follow Tesco deal

Galaxy Optical Services, the infrastructure provider to Tesco Opticians, has confirmed job losses following the sale of the supermarket’s optical business to Vision Express.

Company chairman Maurice Miller said: ‘Tesco’s change of direction is part of a wider strategy to simplify its business model and does not reflect on Galaxy’s performance or delivery to Tesco Opticians and their customers. Management will be working to minimise job losses.

‘We have an excellent track record in what we do, a world-class production facility, fantastic business processes which we are proud of and some of the best people in the optical industry.’

Optician understands that as many as 300 jobs at the Altrincham-based supplier could be at risk, but the company did not confirm the figure.
