Kata Eyewear won the Silmo d'Or for 'Innovation in Fashion Sunglasses' for the Beam 2 style from the Kawai collection.
Ten categories and 40 nominated designs were narrowed down to the final winners in the international grand prix for technology and fashion at the Paris exhibition.
Kata said that the unconventional and modern Kawai collection broke new ground for Kata with the award and the combination of wood and acetate.
The ultra-thin natural wood laminate, used by designer Kristen Aronsson, was developed for the interior design industry and is inlaid flush with the curving surface of the handmade acetate temple.
Treated with a matt varnish, it creates a 'seamless blend of the organic and synthetic materials'.
Four new Kawai styles in the award-winning wood and acetate combination will be launched in 2006.
