Keeler has launched a new version of its Specialist ophthalmoscope that it claims to be 50 per cent lighter than previous models.

The new model has a slimline lithium battery handle and provides '30 per cent more illumination', which the company said would allow for better diagnosis of cloudy media, cataracts and other eye conditions.

Keeler added that the Morton Lens Track system provided the widest dioptre range of any glass polished lens (from +44D to -45D in 1D steps) and that thanks to enclosed viewing optics the user can get closer to the patient's eye while allowing for a wider field of view.

A cobalt blue filter can be used in conjunction with fluorescein dye to detect and examine corneal scars and abrasions and a pupillometer comparison disk also allows for 'quick and easy estimation of pupil size'.
