A new eyewear division that looks set to disrupt the current crop of major manufacturers was officially launched last week in Venice.

Kering Eyewear, part of the Kering Group, was established in 2014 with the intention of creating a dedicated eyewear company which pooled expertise in design, marketing, production and distribution for the majority of the group’s brands – which included Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. Its goal was to become the world leader in luxury and high end eyewear.

The company said integration was important to its business and wanted to capitalise on the fast rate of growth of eyewear in the accessories market. Each brand’s collections are now designed and developed in-house and in collaboration with the creative teams of the Kering brands. The company said this meant it could give the same attention to craftsmanship and detail as in all of its other product categories.
