Laser group reveals wavefront benefits

Ultralase has claimed a high level of accuracy from its wavefront-guided laser eye procedures.
Speaking at London's Royal College of Physicians, consultant ophthalmic surgeon Joseph Karthikappallil revealed that the Leeds-based business had achieved improvements using Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix Z100 wavefront laser.
Everyone in the 66-patient study achieved a minimum of 6/12 vision without their spectacles or contact lenses. The percentage achieving 6/6 or better was 85 per cent, up from the 78 per cent recorded in Ultralase's independently-audited standard laser (non-wavefront) results.
'This marks a significant breakthrough in the accuracy of laser eye treatment,' said Karthikappallil. 'But the improvement isn't just limited to Snellen chart acuity. The quality of vision was much improved by reducing higher-order visual aberrations, increasing contrast sensitivity and image clarity, even in poor light conditions.
