Laser surgeon pays £23,000 to patient

One of Britain's best known laser eye surgeons, Emanuel Rosen, has paid out over £23,000 to a patient who claimed she suffered from double vision after surgery at his clinic.

Catherine Brown, who lives in Stockport, received the out-of-court settlement after the case went before a district judge in Manchester, it has been reported.
Last month The Manchester Evening News reported that the patient made the claim because she suffers impaired visibility in one eye following surgery nearly five years ago.
According to the article Mr Rosen expressed his regret for what he called a 'failure of the system' at his Alexandra Hospital clinic in Cheadle, and hoped that advances in technology would allow him to correct Ms Brown's sight in future.
Following her treatment in 1998 she was advised that one of Mr Rosen's staff who was operating laser equipment had wrongly prescribed the level of treatment she was given.
This year she accepted the £23,750 settlement, and told the newspaper Mr Rosen should have supervised his colleague more closely.
'I don't play the piano as much as I used to because I see 20 notes rather than 12,' she said.
The article appeared in The Manchester Evening News on April 2.
