The collection, branded Essential Eyewear, is aimed at the young adult or the older wearer who wants a youthful look, says product manager, Richard Woolston. It features all the most popular shapes, including quadrangles, octagonals, ovals and supras, and also includes a selection of smaller eye sizes. Young Optical describes the design as uncluttered and says it offers a 'sensible' choice of colours. The 12 metal models come in matt and shiny gold, black, bronze, pewter and more feminine colours - antique red and matt pink. The seven plastic models are available in classic black and light and dark tortoiseshells as well as dark red and two-tone colours - black over red, blue or yellow. A plastic supra in dark green will soon be added. 'Feedback from our customers suggests that many people are unwilling to pay a premium price for a frame just because it has a fancy side or has been finished in an unusual colour,' says Richard Woolston. 'We offer straightforward, minimalist styling, a good overall standard of quality and a price everyone can afford. Essential Eyewear is really for those who want a designer look that doesn't cost the earth.' A discount structure is available for the range, which is supported by a new catalogue.
