Lego launches Braille bricks

The RNIB worked with Lego to develop the tactile tool

Sight loss organisations in different countries, including the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), have partnered with toy company Lego to launch Braille bricks.

The charity worked with Lego to test the bricks, which are designed to help children with vision impairment develop tactile skills and learn the Braille system.

David Clarke, director of services at the RNIB, said: ‘Braille is an important tool, particularly for young people with vision impairment, and these cleverly designed bricks enable children to learn Braille creatively while also engaging with their classmates in a fun and interactive way.’

A pilot project was launched in April 2019 and the bricks are now available in Danish, Norwegian, English, Portuguese, German and French, with a total of 11 languages across 20 countries available by early 2021.
