Leicester-based Community Health and Eyecare (CHEC) has received a ‘good’ rating from the Care and Quality Commission (CQC) following its first assessment since opening last year.

The city centre community hospital - evaluated on its safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership - was also praised for its free Home to hospital pick up service plus short waiting times.

Jose Bailey, CHEC commercial director, said: ‘We put the patient front and centre of every decision we make about our service provision and operations. We can assess and treat patients in an average of three weeks.

‘While the objective was to create an environment that delivered the very best quality and care for the patients, to be recognised as ‘Good’ by CQC is a brilliant achievement for our team.’

Since opening in March 2022, CHEC has consulted more than 13,600 patients and carried out over 3,500 cataract surgeries.
