Leightons celebrates 95th anniversary

Leightons Opticians and Hearing Care has celebrated 95 years as a family business by highlighting the story of a gold sovereign from 1910.

The gold sovereign, pictured with an order form, was the first payment received by founder Henry Oscar Leighton on February 24, 1928 from Mrs Stephens. Leightons was now led by the third generation of the family after it was passed down to Henry’s son Richard and then his son, and current CEO, Ryan.

‘The gold sovereign is a treasured part of the family business heritage. My grandfather saw it as a good omen 95 years ago and decided to keep it as a memento, representing the start of our business almost a century ago, and it’s amazing to pick this simple gold sovereign up and take a moment to think about all that it has helped to create over the many years that we have been in business,’ Ryan Leighton said.
