Essilor has extended its lens portfolio with the release of Crizal UV. Available now, the lens is claimed to offer patients advanced protection against damaging UV light.
The lens features a new anti-reflective coating called Broad Spectrum Technology on the back of the lens - claimed to virtually eliminate UV light reflection into the eyes. The manufacturer said up to 50 per cent of damaging UV light can come from the back and sides of lenses - areas which until now haven't been protected.
To support the launch of the lens and increase consumer awareness of potentially damaging UV light, Essilor has developed an Eye-Sun Protection Factor (E-SPF) rating system to help consumers understand the level of UV protection provided by their eyewear. The new system draws inspiration from the skin care and sunscreen industry to provide an objective laboratory index for eyewear which certifies the global UV protection of the lens.
