Carl Zeiss Vision has introduced the MyoVision by Zeiss lens to reduce myopic deterioration in children in China, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea, with a worldwide launch planned as a next step.
The lens is licensed worldwide and is claimed to reduce the deterioration of vision in myopic children by up to 30 per cent.
MyoVision is based on the Peripheral Vision Management technology and was developed jointly with Australia's Vision Cooperative Research Centre (News 09.04.10). CZV described the lens design as sending 'a kind of stop signal to the eye to reduce or halt excessive growth of the eyeball'.
In medical trials involving 210 myopic 6-16-year-olds, MyoVision was found to slow the progression of myopia by an average of 30 per cent in those aged between six and 12 who have at least one myopic parent.
