Optometrist John Prebble, who was found guilty of deficient professional conduct by a GOC fitness to practise panel over his treatment of a patient between June 17 2004 and March 23 2006, has been given the go-ahead to continue to work.

At last week's hearing, Prebble faced allegations that he did not conduct or record visual field examinations, perform ophthalmoscopy adequately or investigate the symptoms or record such investigations. He was also accused of failing to complete adequate records.

Prebble admitted in relation to the patient, who is in her 70s, that during his examinations on June 17 2004 and March 23 2006 he did not conduct or record visual fields examinations or complete adequate records.

The disciplinary panel found him guilty of not adequately performing ophthalmoscopy in 2006 but cleared him of failing to investigate and not record the symptoms of such investigations in 2004.
