Local council issues illegal sales warning

Rogue traders of cosmetic contact lenses in East Yorkshire have been targeted by local trading standards council officers.

A number of fashion, fancy dress, hair and beauty retailers in the area have been warned to stop selling the products or risk prosecution by the General Optical Council.

They were thwarted after a trading standards officer found plano lenses with football and union jack patterns being sold without the presence of a registered optometrist, dispensing optician or medical practitioner.

Colin Briggs, trading standards services manager for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: 'It was to the credit of the officer that discovered this and thought it wasn't quite right.
