LOCSU has commenced recruitment for the second year of its optical leads project amid proposed changes to the NHS commissioning model.
It follows an initial appointment of 10 regional leads on 12-month contracts from April 2011.
Katrina Venerus, LOCSU's director of operations and commissioning, said: 'Fast moving changes in the NHS landscape as the Health and Social Care Bill goes through parliament have provided new opportunities and challenges for Local Optical Committees (LOCs) and the optical leads team has helped our professions to navigate the transition period at a local level.'
Year two of the optical leads project will see LOCSU help LOCs to negotiate with commissioners to provide local eye care services.
