Locums respond to ‘greedy’ claims

A statement has been issued by the Locum Union in response to business owners who have called locum optometrists ‘greedy’ on social media.

Criticism of locums was provoked after the group called for ‘fair remuneration for services’ and stated that locums have been working at discounted rates for many years.

The Locum Union has called the comments a ‘stab in the back’ to optometrists who have played a role in helping these business grow by providing their professional services.

A statement highlighted ‘the irony of these business owners to call locums “greedy” at a time when they have opportunistically and simultaneously reduced locum rates, weeks before lockdown and whilst clinics were running as at normal capacities.’
