Low-dose atropine efficacy for myopia

The treatment showed reduced myopia progression in the second & third years

Low‑dose atropine combined with other optical measures was effective in decreasing myopia progression, according to the Taiwan Journal of Ophthalmology.

A study into the treatment of 0.01% atropine daily alongside other solutions, such as spectacles, was tested on 104 myopic children aged five to 12 across four years.

It concluded that a significant decrease in myopia progression was evident in the second and third years, compared to the first year in all atropine treatment groups. Using atropine alongside other optical supplies, including spectacles and contact lenses, increased the treatments’ efficacy.

Meanwhile, the combination of atropine and contact lenses had the least adverse rebound effect one year after the end of treatment.
