Provision of emotional support for people losing their vision remains 'seriously neglected,' according to a new study.

Commissioned by the Thomas Pocklington Trust and carried out by researchers at the University of Reading, the study concluded there was clear evidence of a need for the provision of emotional support for those losing their sight but there was very little information on how best to provide it.

Researchers also found that sight loss increased depression among the elderly and also had a major impact on adults of working age and above who were more likely to suffer mental health problems as a result of their impaired vision.
