The UK optical sector is in a difficult situation but it is a resilient market and Luxottica Elite Client practices are well placed to thrive and survive.

This was a key message at Luxottica's second Elite Client meeting, held last week in Monte Carlo, with 140 UK and Irish independents represented. The event, attended by Luxottica founder Leonardo Del Veccio, featured a brand and catwalk show, lectures and a gala dinner at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, where 800 practitioners from around the world were treated to surprise live performances from Gloria Gaynor and the Gypsy Kings.

Luxottica CEO Andrea Guerra described 2008 as a tough, but good year for the company. 'We are in a tougher environment compared to a year ago and need to involve consumers more. Many people have cut investments but we go on investing and finding ways to get consumers into stores and show them new things.'
