In a company statement Luxottica revealed that its net sales increased 13.8 per cent in comparison to the same period in 2009, or 6.5 per cent at constant exchange rates to €1.595bn.

The highest sales figures in its history were complemented by a 30.1 per cent jump in profits to €150.1m.

Commenting on the drivers of the exceptional growth, Andrea Guerra, chief executive officer of Luxottica, said: 'We have successfully invested in the right markets and embarked on actions that are resulting in very positive results indeed. We have launched collections and special projects that have proven to be particularly well-received in the market.'
