Major Michael Gibson-Horrocks MBE, who qualified as an optometrist in 1947, died on September 27 in Milan, aged 89.

Major Michael Gibson-Horrocks MBE, who qualified as an optometrist in 1947, died on September 27 in Milan, aged 89.

He served in the Second World War and reached the rank of Major in the Royal Fusiliers. He was captured in North Africa and made a successful escape. He was then wounded twice in Italy having fought at Monte Cassino.

Major Gibson-Horrocks practised in Chiswick, west London. He later founded a practice in St James Street, serving the households of Clarence House and Buckingham Palace.
